ZERO ENERGY SMART ECO-FRIENDLY CITIES

Zero energy smart Eco-Friendly cities are the cities where all sort of energies will be derived out of renewable resources like sunlight, wind, tides, etc. Moreover, the cities are being controlled through different devices through internet. This principle comes under consideration and being practice because it reduce carbon emission, that leads to a major problem of today’s world i.e. global warming. It helps us to reduce the dependence on fossils fuels. Above all, the houses are connected to electrical grid where at time of excess energy production the excess energy is transferred to the grid and at a time when there is lack in power it is derived from the grid. The main features are as follows:
  • Integration of renewable energy resources.
  • Integration of plug-in electric vehicles.
  • Implementation of zero-energy concepts.
A building may be considered as a Zero Energy Building (ZEB) if 100% of the energy it utilizes comes from renewable energy resources, or if the energy is generated off the site. The most cost- effective steps towards the reduction in  building energy consumption usually occur during the design process. In 1970’s due to energy crises and environmental pollutions affected on the progress of sustainable buildings and cities but this can be overcome by zero energy concept in this modern 21st century. Designing and building green structures cost approximately the same as regular buildings. This building will make to return at least 10 times. Sustainable building task forces 20% of investment into green building will elaborate 10 times more saving so it makes more economical and make easy to develop a country as soon as possible. The main materials which are used to build green buildings are non- toxic, reusable and recyclable materials such as lumber, bamboo, straw, recycled metal/stone, sheep wool, compressed earth block, concrete, cork etc.

Advantages of zero energy buildings are as follows:

  • Less maintenance cost.
  • High property value.
  • Increased tax benefit.
  • Reducing waste, pollution and environmental degradation.
  • Efficient use of energy, water and other resources.
  • Absolute zero carbon emissions.
  • Healthier and comfortable.

Disadvantages of zero energy buildings are as follows:

  • Mechanical cooling device is not there only natural source are used.
  • Lack of availability of materials in rural areas.
  • Time consuming.
  • Roofing problems.
A house where almost all the appliances like rice cookers, refrigerators, security system, television, etc. are controlled externally via external devices like mobiles, tablets, etc through internet. With the implementation of this idea many problems relating to security and others.

In this concept, we will combine the ideas of ZEB and Smart Buildings thereby giving much more advantages. Thus the goal of such buildings is to use our resources more efficiently and to reduce a building`s negative impact on the environment. So it becomes an important issue to develop such type of buildings for upcoming generations in order to reduce unwanted effects to the environment and to provide Eco-Friendly to the environment.
